Carlos Gonzalez

Although his name is common, there is nothing common about this Colombian-born, New York-bred actor and comedian. Carlos has indeed infiltrated the entertainment industry from all angles as a bi-lingual artist. From commercial prints to Santa Monica’s Film Festival’s Best Film Award winning musical, “Isabella Rico”. You may have also seen him on HBO’s “Sex & the City”, NBC’s “Law and Order” and ABC’s “NYPD Blue”. He was most recently featured in a principal role opposite Kate Del Castillo and Luis Antonio Ramos in the film “The Miracle of Spanish Harlem”.

Carlos also hit the New York City stand -up and improv comedy scene. He has quickly become a favorite, winning audiences over with his ability to skillfully blend his talents of acting, dancing and comedy into one big, hilarious and unforgettable stage performance. To add to his professional career, Carlos also earned his TV credits as a writer when he was brought on as a creative consultant and writer for MTV Networks. He has performed many times for a live studio audience on “Entertainment as a Second Language” on MTV Tr3s and was invited to come on as a guest panelist on “Certified” on Music Choice. He has also hosted such events as the International Salsa Festival in Cancun, Mexico.Currently, Carlos has developed a short comedy screenplay titled “When Bobby Met Larry”. The film consists of five different characters who were developed by Carlos himself. With the help of SPFX and celebrity make-up artist Meagan Hester these characters have visually come to life for the camera. Apart from writing the screenplay, Carlos starred in all five roles and also co-produced the film. It is indeed one of his most proudest, but most challenging accomplishments yet. Read more

Nadia Kay

The title of a singer’s first release is sometimes as personally revealing as it is an important career defining decision. So naturally, Nadia Kay chose “Music, Sex ‘n’ Marshmallows” as the name for her debut album released in March 2009 on Silver Curve Records. Since then Nadia has released a second studio album “RELOADED” while continuing writing new material and touring with the most recent performance at the LINCOLN PARK Festival – a popular 40,000 people music event in Newark, NJ.The daughter of a well – known Jazz composer, Nadia was immersed in the music business from day one. She recalls singing along with her father as a young child, both at home and in rehearsals with his band. She spent her playtime writing melodies on the piano her father gave to her, all the while dreaming of someday sharing the stage with him. Soon she began performing in school productions like “Oklahoma” and “Rent,” each experience further strengthening her resolve to pursue a career in entertainment. But first, she followed her parents’ advice and earned a marketing degree while attending a private business school in New York. After performing at open-mic nights around Manhattan with her Pop/Rock band, Nadia eventually met a music producer, Sky Silver, who would soon become her mentor and close friend. She continues writing all of her songs and is looking forward to releasing her third album. As the world is introduced to Nadia Kay’s edgy new sound and velvety voice, many will no doubt take note of the Ukrainian beauty’s ability to entertain. With the launch of her new music video “Captain Sky Love” she is excited to take her music career to the next level. Powerful and polished, her creative vision is a high-energy-pop-dance-story beautifully told with fierce beats, sexy lyrics and flawless choreography. Backed by an exotic female dance group ‘Sirens Whisper’ Nadia is currently touring the US while planning to expand her horizons and bring her act to Europe and Asia.

FR3EDIM

FR3EDIM is a pneumonic for ‘free diversity in motion’ and also a play on the word ‘freedom’. It was a name derived from a group meeting after the realization that a new one was needed because the movie STEP UP came out with the same name. This group of students worked their way up in the industry, beginning with high school talent shows and birthday parties to performing for MTV concerts and dancing with some of the best dance companies and artists in the Tri-State area! This group has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for charities such as “Esther’s Aid National Dance Benefit” and has made a huge difference in their communities through other philanthropic ventures. They strive to be different from any other conventional crew by emphasizing the sense of family and supporting one another spiritually, kinesthetically, and psychologically. The groups name reflects the apparent ethnic composition of our group. FR3EDIM’s members predominantly consist of individuals from almost every continent on the globe. The nameFR3EDIM represents and emphasizes our diversity, uniform motion, and freedom- because without freedom, there is no creativity. FR3EDIM plans to continue to change lives one step at a time and to dance for a cause greater than ourselves. www.fr3edim.com

While still immersed in Western music, Nitim attempted to Understand the associations of these two genres of music by thinking “out of the Box.” This led to the birth of Boiler Room Music. This gave Nitim a chance to work with up-and-coming artists like himself in an effort to grow and expose themselves.

Suresh M Ketwaroe was born and raised in Suriname – South America. For the last 15 years I have lived in Queens, New York. I am a singer, guitarist, songwriter and have shared the stage with some famous artists such as: Calypso King Mighty Sparrow, the late Bollywood playback singer Mahendra kapoor, and Shivamani, world renowned percussionist of music director A.R. Rehman (Golden Globe Award Winner for music in “Slumdog Millionaire”). I have also performed with some local artists. I took my first guitar lessons from my very good friend Pairin Kariman in Suriname. One of my other gurus is a famous keyboardist from Holland, Ronny Bhikharie. I sing in seven different languages; Hindi, English, Spanish, Dutch, Sranan Tongo (African language), Urdu and Punjabi. Yet my specialty is singing in Hindi. The styles I sing in are: Classic Rock, Soca, Reggae, Latin, Chutney, and Indian Classical. A highlight in my career was on October 12, 2008, when I got the opportunity to perform alongside Sanjaya Malakar, one of the American Idol contestants, at Cipriani in Manhattan. I got this program through a brother-like friend Kishore Seunarine. This event was one of the most memorable moments in my life. Some of the places I have performed are: Sands in Atlantic City, Hampton, City Hall, Royal Albert Hall in New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland, Boston, Connecticut, Amazura, and of course Cipriani. In 2004, I also performed with a hip-hop band named Tomorrowz Weaponz. Besides this, I have performed in many places in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn for different occasions. I am also known as the Indian Jimi Hendrix. This is because I play my double neck guitar with my teeth. It’s very obvious that I’m a great admirer of this legend. I have released a Hindi album (Pehla Kadam). The name of my band is Surya. Soon, I am hoping to release an original CD, which will feature a song in three different languages (Hindi, English, and Spanish).

MOONSPANK –

MOONSPANK’s world is getting a whole lot bigger. So prepare to be swept away by the force of nature that is the band’s latest album, You Thought the World Was Over.

There is simply no evading a sound so big, so breathtaking that it breaks down defenses and stirs the soul. Once the hot, planet-swallowing pop on You Thought the World Was Over sinks its teeth into you, you’ll find yourself becoming one of the growing number of Moonspank converts. Moonspank’s new album reflects not only the band’s youth, but also its rich history. The band was formed in 2002 by Dave Kerry, Tony Pax and Greg Saracino. Kerry, fresh off the boat from Ireland at the time, was in search of “the Dream” and tending bar at a local watering hole in Westchester, New York, where he met Westchester denizens Saracino and Pax.

Saracino recalls, “Dave swept us off his feet with that larger than life voice of his at some open mic. That brogue didn’t hurt either! Meeting him was pure fate.”

This year marks a renaissance for the band, after constant touring, they went back in the studio and recorded You Thought the World Was Over. “We’ve always drawn from our varied background and experiences while writing songs.” Kerry says. “These songs are our best.”

And Kerry is right. The songwriting is second to none, and the production is beautifully colored with crystalline vocals, aggressive and tasteful percussion that rivals Stewart Copeland and Steve Gadd, deep bass tones that shake the room during huge emotional moments, vintage pianos and precise guitar work.

Pax says, “Fans keep telling us that the album grows taller and more spectacular with each listen. We couldn’t be happier. This is what it’s all about.”

Moonspank is supporting the release and expanding their fan base with a regular monthly gig at New York City’s famed Bitter End club. “These Bitter End shows put the band under a microscope. We know that the audience is listening and actually concentrating. It’s nerve-wracking playing on the same stage that Dylan and Hendrix once graced.” The trio performs their material with a crack group of backup musicians. “We’re lucky to be friends with some of the best musicians in New York City. It makes these high exposure shows easier.”

On paper and on disc, Moonspank delivers what fans had dared to expect and new listeners have sorely needed. But more than that, it spreads the news, from the respective hearts of Ireland and Westchester, NY, to anywhere, that music for soul, the heart and the mind still matters: Moonspank is here to stay.

Ricky Blues –

On or about August 3rd, 1973; in the region of Sonsonate, El Salvador, Enrique Aparicio Campos was born. He was orphaned as a result of the harsh violence and civil uprising at that time. The infant was brought to shelter somewhere in the town of Sonsonate where at the age of two months he was adopted by an Italian-American family from New York. He was one of ten infants to be successfully relocated to the US in 1973. This miracle was made possible through a Franciscan priest from Boston who was serving the impoverished communities in that region. His name , Father Fray Flavian Mucci. For more information visit www.agape.com.sv .

Enrique was raised in Hawthorne, New York by Anna Maria and Ralph Filannino . By the age of 8 he was introduced to the guitar and began taking lessons. This would be the beginning of a long musical journey for the young man. He would also experience school musicals and dramas, a try at commercial acting as a teenager, played in the local church folk group and ultimately, the garage-band circuit in High School.

While attending college in NYC at the Cooper Union School of Art, Enrique or Rick was enamored by the local music scene and abundant street performers which Greenwich Village had to offer. It was there that he first saw live Blues performed at an open mic venue and was impacted instantly. There, he vowed to himself that he would try to learn about and become skilled enough to perform that style of music and to share his transforming experience with others.

Ricky Blues is the realization of that dream.

Currently, Ricky Blues performs with different ensembles in Westchester County. These evenings fulfill the pure passion and enjoyment of playing live and in front of audiences for the young Bluesman. These engagements are not limited only to the Blues but any style, original or not. When fully constructed, you can find out upcoming dates and other information at www.rickyblues.com

Modern Dance
by FR3EDIM ~ Harry Jefferson

FR3EDIM is a pneumonic for ‘free diversity in motion’ and also a play on the word ‘freedom’. It was a name derived from a group meeting after the realization that a new one was needed because the movie STEP UP came out with the same name. This change of name was more than a change in identity to differentiate oneself from that of a popular movie… it was a change of perspective, mission, and lifestyle.

Meryem Vani

My mother was a classical singer. When she performed she often brought me along to experience the music and the people. At one venue, I started spinning to the music as my mother was performing an encore and the people around me started throwing money–coins–for good luck. My mother finished her performance, laughed and helped me pick up the coins. I never forgot the feeling–I was four years old and continued with dance classes after that.I had discovered a great pleasure in dance.

Meryem Vani & Troupe Zaghareet is currently available to entertain at parties, corporate events, educational presentations andtheatrical presentations. She also teaches individually or in group seminars with an emphasis on the beneficial aspects of dance movement and the empowerment of the student. Meryem Vani performs various forms of folkloric, cabaret and fusion bellydance. She is proficient in the use of cane, sword, daggers, fans and other props. She will also perform with her ball python by special request!!!!

Yillah

Founded the U Street Caravan dance company in 2005 at the behest of her private students who wanted to present her choreography at Rakkasah East, an annual Middle Eastern dance festival in Somerset, New Jersey. Later that same year, they appeared in a show at the Jack Guidone Theatre with the legendary Delilah.

In 2006, the group returned to the Rakkasah stage for two performances and danced at a cultural arts celebration at American University and a halftime show for the Washington Freedom women’s soccer team.

U Street Caravan performed its first full repertoire revue – Farashah – at the Jack Guidone Theatre in August 2007 to two sold-out crowds. Following the success of that show, the Caravanas brought the house down as the finale to opening day of the citywide Dance DC Festival with West African dance troupe Kankouran.

In 2008, the women of the ‘Van performed their second full repertoire revue – Emra’a – again to two sold-out houses at the Jack Guidone Theatre. They continued on to two Dance DC showcases, including another blowout opening night appearance with Kankouran.

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities invited U Street Caravan to participate in Dance DC for a third performance in 2009, opening the festival on the Atlas Performing Arts Center stage along with other world dance groups. They then performed their third annual show, Bazaar, in November 2009 once again on the Jack Guidone stage.

The members of U Street Caravan are renowned for their mixed repertoire of dances that puts a modern spin on the art of Raqs Sharqi – from spicy Spanish-Arabic fusion to emotive veil routines to hip-hop fusion and more. Please contact Yillah for booking information.
